How to Stand Out from the Competition

Standing out is hard. We are in a crowded space, in a fast paced industry. The good news? There is only ONE of you, and by taking advantage of your own unique offering and way of doing business - you can work to stand out in the crowd. Here are some ideas to keep in mind to do that very thing:

Give Information Away 

Give information away. BUT not just any information. Give information away that you feel you are an expert on, and want to be known for. People are desperate for answers and information when it comes to the big decisions that buying and selling homes comes with - so be a light for people that you have specific answers for. Whether it be an e-book about a certain part of the sales process or the rundown on your neighborhood, an extensive FAQ on technical aspects of the real estate world, or an in-depth history of how a single subdivision has developed and changed over time - be the answer to someone’s question. (And for free, so they can find you and learn from you right off the bat!).

Have a Niche

Whether it be a specific neighborhood, a single condo building, a small elementary school’s district, first time homebuyers, downsizers - the options are endless, but the important thing is to pick a niche. It gives the “big fish in a small pond” feel where you can be the “go to” person for certain arena. It also makes your job easier because you can much more easily know everything there is to know about that area and legitimately be the expert instead of trying to keep up with all things real estate. 

Be Open About Yourself

Do you ever follow someone online (an influencer, expert, famous person, business owner, etc.) and feel like you know them to the point that you’ve caught yourself thinking, “I should ask them about …” only to realize you do not in fact actually know them? That is what being open and telling your story is all about. When people know YOUR story, your passion and why YOU run your business - they are much more likely to think of you, and come to you when they are looking to buy and sell.

Invest In Your Relationships

Going the extra mile with your clients is MUCH more likely to give them the type of experience that they will want to share with their friends and family than just one that merely allowed the transaction to take place. A couple extra check ins, answering that inconveniently timed phone call and taking true interest in them as a client will go a longer way than you may think.

Take Care of Your Brand 

Just like you would take care of anything else that you hold near and dear to you, your brand and public image needs to be taken care of, as well. Allow yourself to hire the graphic designer, get help refreshing your website or editing your copy - anything it takes to make your online and on-paper presence give the correct impression of just how professional, fabulous and informative you really are!

Keep Iterating

Keep learning, growing, and changing. The market, the business, and the clients change - so it only makes sense that you have to, as well. Make it a priority to set aside time to both continue learning the trade, the latest trends, and your niche, to keep as fresh as possible. In addition, set aside time periodically to sit down with the sole intention of critically looking at what is currently working and not working in terms of getting leads and standing out from competition. Learning from your own iterations and growing is crucial - and something everyone has the capability of doing.

Say “No”

Something we don’t often think about it is what not to do, but it’s important to remember that there are crucial times to say “no”. You can’t be all things to all people and you can’t have a niche if you are spread incredibly thin. Remember to stay true to what aligns with you and your goals to keep your time, energy and business as a whole on track.
